BLM Peaceful Protest in Philly

Here's a glimpse of a #BlackLivesMatter march that came through our neighborhood yesterday. I'm so proud of all these young people from SJU marching together and carrying the torch for racial change in America. It helps to restore my faith and hope in a better tomorrow. We were not afraid of them, nor did we "fear for our lives". They chanted their message clear and loud, and kept it moving. This is what peaceful protest looks like and it's their constitutional right to assemble and do it--regardless of what #45 and his supporters think, and NOBODY needs their permission.

At this point, anyone who can't understand that people are marching so that black people can have the same basic human dignity and rights to breathe, live, and thrive just like they are allowed to do without question, doesn't want to understand. But, it doesn't stop here... all of the change we need is massive because the racial injustice in this country has been allowed to continue for far too long. So, from the bottom to the top, it's time to clean house and throw out the trash! #VoteByAnyMeansNecessary

To God Be The Glory

I wanted to work for 3 more years, but it looks like the timing of my resignation and subsequent retirement to care for my mom wasn't as far off the mark as I thought because my job is on this hit list along with administrative assistants. The same thing happened to mom, who was a seamstress, right after she decided to retire a few years early to care for my dad. She got out of the game just in time because most of the factories closed up and the jobs were sent overseas (where they remain to this day), and she never wanted for anything. I continue to be in awe of God's reasoning and timing for everything. I know He is ALWAYS in control, but sometimes I can't "see" it until later... that is why I chose to go out on "faith" like she did.

Farewell Black Panther / King T'Challa

Well Done, We Will Miss You!

The first time we saw Chadwick Boseman on the big screen was April 2013. AARP Movies For Grown-Ups invited us to a free preview of "42, The True Story of an American Legend" about Jackie Robinson. Everyone who attended the screening received this free movie poster and it's been hanging in the bedroom my grandchildren use when they come to visit ever since.

After that, we saw him in "Get On Up, The James Brown Story" August 2014 during a Marriage Ministry, Inc. couples date night. Then, we saw him in "Black Panther" February 2018. We had a hard time getting tickets because all of the theaters in Philly were sold out, so we went to Narberth to see it. My grandson remembers him as the superhero in the movie and needless to say, he was sad to learn about his passing as well.

All of them were great performances and we thought his star would continue to shine bright for a long time to come. But, God put an end to the struggle we didn't even know he was having and called him home to be with Him. We will miss him and we're sending up prayers of comfort for his family. We know how much this hurts...

A Day to Remember...

All Lives Matter is NOT the reality in America and it will NEVER be a true
statement until #BlackLivesMatter to everyone too... Period! R.I.P. Dr. King.

What Would God Want Us To Do?

A house divided cannot stand and the United States of America is no exception to that rule. Either we all learn to live together or we will all die together. The choice is up to us. But, before we make up our minds, we also need to ask ourselves what would God want us to do? He doesn't concern Himself with our political party, race, or any other trivial matters we choose to squabble about and even kill each other over here on earth. If we acknowledge Him as our Heavenly Father and we are His children, we need to act according to His will rather than our own. His will is clear, precise, and He expects us to do one thing. Love each other, which means EVERYONE. No exceptions. And, any earthly leader who implies or suggests that we do otherwise, either directly or by "dog whistle", is not acting in accordance to His will... period!

I love it! It's so fitting that the people who led the "Lock Her Up" chants at the 2016 RNC won't be present at the 2020 RNC this week because they're all locked up! #DumpTrump #VoteByAnyMeansNecessary

COVID-19: Support Black Business

After we took our grandson to karate class, Pop-Pop wanted to stop by Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books in Germantown for his daily cup of Joe. It was a nice spot and we look forward to returning, God willing, after September 8th when PA will be able to dine-in at eateries again!

DNC #BidenHarris2020

Well, aside from missing the cheers of people gathered together in a public venue, that is the way a political convention should be done #COVID19 style. Everyone from ALL backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life were included and represented throughout the event. America is rich in diversity and that is our country's strength. All of us have something important to contribute and bring to the table! Now, in direct contrast, stay tuned for the 3-ring circus of exclusion next week. It's going to be a humdinger! #VoteByAnyMeansNecessary

🤣 Cartoon of the Day

And, the MAGA Genius of the Day Award goes to this guy! Congrats! Is it me, or did the cartoonist actually draw a cop rather than a boy on the screen of this guy's smartphone? Just asking and SMH at the same time. Lawd, have mercy!

United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Now that the Democratic President-Vice President ticket is set, and Joe Biden with Kamala Harris are going to be the Democratic ticket on the November ballot, this is a good time to remind everyone about the reasons for voting and why it is so important.

1. You're not just voting for President and Vice President.

2. You're voting to prevent a 7-2 dangerous conservative majority on the Supreme Court. Note: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is 87 years old, is single-handedly fighting off all illness so she can show up to do her job. This alone should be enough for an historic turnout!

3. You're voting for the next Secretary of Education, Housing Secretary, and Attorney General.

4. You are voting for the "down" ballot as well, to keep the House and to gain majority of the Senate in Congress.

5. You're voting for federal judges.

6. You're voting for the rule of law.

7. You're voting for saving national parks.

8. You're voting for letting kids out of cages (remember them... that's still going on).

9. You're voting for clean air and water.

10. You're voting for scientists and other "knowledgeable" experts to be allowed to speak and do something to protect us from climate change and pandemics.

11. You're voting for greater transparency and confidence that the President or Congress isn't using your tax dollars as a slush fund for his family and friends.

12. You're voting for housing rights.

13. You're voting for former incarcerated persons to be treated with dignity and assisted in becoming proud and productive members of society when they return to their respective communities.

14. You're voting for everyone to be able to adopt a child without a lot of red tape.

15. You're voting for Dreamers.

16. You're voting so that there will be Social Security and Medicare when you retire, and in your children's future as well.

17. You're voting for veterans to get the care they deserve.

18. You're voting for rural hospitals.

19. You're voting so that everyone can have access to affordable health insurance.

20. You're voting for teaching to be treated like the noble profession that it is and for teachers to be paid like the heroes they are.

21. You're voting to have a President who doesn't embarrass this country every time he attends an international meeting.

22. You're voting against allowing the USA to become yet another authoritarian regime.

23. You're voting for sensible gun laws.

24. You're voting for children born to military troops overseas to still be counted as U.S. citizens.

25. You’re voting to curb homelessness and find solutions to affordable housing.

26. You’re voting to take measures to end the racial asset and wealth disparities.

27. You're voting to defend women's reproductive rights and a woman's right to make all health related decisions regarding her body.

28. You're voting to acknowledge the humanity and protect the rights and safety of our family and friends in communities of color, as well as the LGBTQ+ community.

29. You're voting to stop the normalization of dangerous bigotry, racism, and white supremacy and in the mainstream.

30. You're voting to rebuild the CDC to help prevent or eradicate all dangerous pandemics like the Coronavirus.

31 You’re voting for an increased minimum wage.

We can't all agree on everything and the Biden-Harris ticket isn't perfect. No ticket ever was or will be perfect. Perhaps, for whatever reason, Joe and Kamala don't pass your purity test. In spite of that, we must do all we can to ensure that the Biden-Harris ticket wins. The future of our country and well-being of everyone in it depends on it now more than ever before!

The Things Mom Left Behind...

Under normal circumstances, I'm not known for procrastination, but I took my time getting around to this task. I'm in the process of packing up the personal things we helped mom gather together to come to our house for what she thought would be a short visit on Saturday, October 19, 2019. If I had suggested a permanent stay, she never would have agreed to come. She was with us for exactly 9 months to the day and for the time being, we will be taking these things back to her house today. Forgive me for deceiving you, mom, but it was for your own safety and well-being. I know we did the right thing and I trust that God has explained all of the "whys" to you by now. I love and miss you, but I'm also grateful that you finally got your wings because you went through a lot to get them. Tell dad hello, and I love and miss him too!

Caroline's Cart

Please forgive me, but moms are hard to give up and let go of, so it's gonna take me a minute to get over the loss.

I want to give a shout out to two people I will probably never cross paths with or have the pleasure of meeting, David and Drew Ann Long, for giving the world 'Caroline's Cart'. It's a shopping cart created for special needs children and offers parents and caregivers a viable option to transport older children through a store while shopping, without the impossible task of maneuvering a wheelchair and a traditional shopping cart at the same time—and, it's named after their special needs daughter, Caroline.

Target has some of these carts and they were offered to me several times to transport my mom around the store when she was in the beginning stages of loosing the mobility in her legs, and it was a Godsend. So, the cart can be used by caregivers who are shopping with aging parents as well. On our way home from karate class yesterday, we stopped in Target and I saw the cart as I was entering the store for the first time in a few months. It reminded me of mom, so I took a few pics and wanted to share how grateful I am that someone thought of it because it really made our shopping trips a lot easier to manage too.

Thank you so much, David & Drew Ann!

⏰ Quality Time w/ The Grands

"A BLACK BELT IS A WHITE BELT THAT NEVER QUITS"

First of all, I can't believe it's August 1st! But, it's also Saturday and that means karate class @ AmeriKick-Andorra for my grandson. He and Pop-Pop have been managing just fine without me for the past 9 months, but it felt good to be able to go with them again. Obviously, a lot has changed because of #COVID19, such as adults can no longer sit in the studio while classes are going on because of social distancing.

So, me and Pop-Pop went to Acme and the Dollar Store to pass the time. I was surprised to see Staples was closed and gone from the shopping center, but Five Below will be moving into the space. After karate was over, we headed back to our neck of the woods, stopped at Target, and returned home.

My grandson will be with us for the rest of the day, while his sisters are visiting with Gran-Gran & Pop-Pop!
