It's official! My grandson received a #OrangeBelt in karate today! We are proud of you and keep up the good work as you continue to go onward and upward. He also received a certificate for Student of the Month. Next level #PurpleBelt, so stay tuned. Congratulations to all of the graduates!

A Black Belt is a White Belt that Never Quits

For the past 14 months, our grandson has been committed to his Saturday morning karate classes, and his continued determination, focus, hard work, and memory skills have paid off again. Today, he passed the test to receive his #OrangeBelt and the graduation is next Saturday (stay tuned, because you know there will be pics). As you can see from the wall hanging at AmeriKick, there are several levels to go before he reaches Black Belt status. But, he has shown us in many ways that he can master whatever challenge is put before him and with God's help, we know he will do the same with karate. YGB! 🙂 #NoLimits 🥋 #ProudGMom ❤️ #ProudGPop

Duck Boat Tragedy: The Coleman Family

Words cannot express the sadness I feel for the surviving members of this family, and others who lost their lives in the Duck Boat tragedy yesterday. It is beyond devastating that 9 members of a family could lose their lives at the same time and yet, a similar tragedy occurred last week with the Trinidad family. The father and 4 daughters died in a terrible car accident and only the mother survived. All of the families are in need of massive prayers and the "peace beyond all understanding" that can only come from God... 😢 #PrayersUp

The Truth About Love & Relationships

For couples so eager to call it quits 💔 and throw in the towel on your relationships because everything isn’t “perfect” 🤭, here is some food for thought 🤔. Lifelong commitment is not what most people think it is 😯. It's not waking up every morning to make breakfast and eat together 🍳🥞🍽. It's not cuddling in bed until both of you fall asleep, peacefully, at night 🛌. It's not a clean home filled with laughter and lovemaking everyday 💐. It's someone who steals all the covers and snores! 😳😴 It's slammed doors 🚪 and a few harsh words 🤬🤬, at times. It’s stubbornly disagreeing 😡😠 and giving each other the silent treatment 😶 until your hearts heal 💔💔... and then, FORGIVENESS! 💙❤️ It’s coming home 🏠 to the same person 💏, everyday, that you know LOVES 💑 and CARES about you in spite of (and because of) who you are. It's laughing 🤪🤪 about the one time you accidentally did something stupid 😜. It's about dirty laundry 😝 and unmade beds 🛏 WITHOUT finger pointing 👉🏾👈🏽. It's about helping each other with the hard work of life! 🤝 It's about swallowing the nagging words instead of saying them out loud 🤮🤢. It's about eating the cheapest and easiest meal you can make, and sitting down together at a late hour 🕛 to eat because you both had a crazy day 👫. It's when you have an emotional breakdown 👫 and your Love ❤️💙 lays with you, holds you, and tells you everything is going to be okay 😍... and, you BELIEVE them 😊😊. It's about still loving someone even though sometimes, they make you absolutely insane 👫. Loving someone is not easy 👫... sometimes, it's extremely hard 👫; but it's amazing, comforting, and one of the BEST things you'll ever experience. 💏 If you are 🙌🏾 BLESSED 🙌🏾 to have a wonderful partner 💏 in your life, copy, paste, and share this along with a photo of the two 😍😍 of you. 😘😘😘 It might inspire another couple on the verge of giving up to save their relationship! 💙❤️ - Author Unknown

Truth Crushed to Earth Will Rise Again

Did you know at one time, Black people were not allowed to be buried anywhere within the Philadelphia city limits? Also, when burials were finally permitted in one central location later on, no grave markers or headstones were allowed. As a result, 5,000 of our people are namelessly buried only 18 inches below the surface of Weccacoe Playground in Queen Village. It's also possible there are many more because the bodies were stacked in three layers. Lord, have mercy. As painful as it is, this is an important part of Philly history that we should know.

If you've got a few minutes to spare, please click on the image or text link underneath and check out the article because it's worth the read. Then, spread the word so others can join in the effort along with the city and Queen Village to make this long overdue memorial happen. Now that this forgotten burial ground has our attention, that is the least we can do to honor our ancestors who deserved so much more respect than what they received at the time of their deaths. Further, the article might be helpful to anyone who may have a relative buried there.

So, the next time you're engaged in a conversation with someone about race relations in America and you are asked, "Why can't you forget about these things and move on?", don't hesitate to share this story and all of the other horror stories of indignities and injustices our people have endured. Then, ask them, "If these things happened to your ancestors, would you forget?"

We, as descendants, are due apologies and concessions from America for any wrongs that can be made right--such as the memorial for this forgotten burial ground. The real tragedy is, we were robbed of knowing the names of these thousands of lost souls because they were not allowed to have grave markers or headstones. But, God knows the names of each and every one of them.

R.I.P. to all of our brothers and sisters beneath Weccacoe Playground. Through no fault of our own, the length of time it took for this to come to light is inexcuseable, but now we know you are there!
