Job Well Done!

My hubby, Keith, officially retired from the University of PA today after 29 years.

Of course, the memories I still hold dear in my heart are his first 15 years there. Why? Because after he got the job, we rode to work together on the G bus and the El to Center City (to my job), and then he got back on the El and rode to University City (to his job). He bought a Daily News every day before we left home, read to me so I could keep up with what's going on, and we had some spirited conversations and debates during our morning commutes. When that finally came to an end in 2005 because he started a new position with different working hours, I really missed his presence and the commute to work wasn't the same. It took me a couple of years to get over it because someone 'moved my cheese' (I hate that book), but eventually I did.

So, Congrats Luvy! I know the university is going to miss you just like I did because there is only one YOU, and YOU are a class act that is tough to follow!

A spicy chicken sandwich caused all of this madness?

Grandma is feeling some type of way about it too!

Quitting Is Not An Option For Us!

“So, you mean to tell me that someone down your ancestry line survived being chained to other human bodies for several months in the bottom of a disease-infested ship during the Middle Passage; lost their customs, traditions, and language and picked up English as best they could while working free of charge from sunup to sundown; watched their babies sold out of their arms and women raped by ruthless slave owners.

They took names with no last names, no birth certificates, no heritage of any kind; braved the Underground Railroad; survived the Civil War to enter into sharecropping; learned to read and write out of sheer will and determination; faced the burning crosses of the KKK; everted their eyes at the black bodies swinging from ropes hung on trees; fought in World Wars as soldiers to return to America as boys; marched in Birmingham, hosed in Selma, jailed in Wilmington, assassinated in Memphis, segregated in the South, ghettoed in the North, ignored in history books, stereotyped in Hollywood, and vilified in the news.

And, in spite of it all, someone in your family line endured every era to make sure you would get here and you receive one rejection, face one obstacle, lose one friend, get overlooked, and you want to quit? How dare you entertain the very thought of quitting! People you will never know survived from generation to generation so you could succeed. Don’t you dare let them down!

Pass this information on to your young people who don’t know their history and want to get weak! It is NOT in our DNA to quit!” - Anthony Mack

Knex Flux: RMS Titanic Project

A few weeks ago, my grandson found some pics for an RMS Titanic project on Knex Flux and without any diagrams or instructions, he duplicated what he saw in the pics and built one too! I don't know how many pieces he used, but it had to be at least 1,000+. He worked on it the last two Saturdays after karate class and finished it this weekend. I'm not sure if he wants to be an engineer or meteorologist, but I know it's going to be something great. Here's a link for the pics on Knex Flux for comparison!

Father, I Stretch My Hands To Thee

Lyrics by Charles Wesley & Artwork by Staci Maxwell

Father, I stretch my hands to Thee,
No other help I know;
If Thou withdraw Thyself from me,
Ah! whither shall I go?

What did Thine only Son endure,
Before I drew my breath!
 What pain, what labor, to secure
My soul from endless death!

Surely Thou canst not let me die;
O speak, and I shall live;
And here I will unwearied lie,
Till Thou Thy Spirit give.

Author of faith! to Thee I lift
My weary, longing eyes:
O let me now receive that gift!
My soul without it dies.

Take Note America...

Here's some common sense from our neighbors in Canada to serve as a reality check for #45 and the GOP, who's excuses for mass shootings in our country are total BS. You can't solve a problem that you're not even willing to acknowledge exists! #VoteEmOut2020

The Endless Cycle of Mass Shootings in America

If we don't learn from our mistakes, we're doomed to repeat them!

Sunday, August 4, 2019

Prayer of the Day

In addition to these 2 mass shootings, let us not forget that there were a total of 5 within the past week. They are happening so frequently now, that they are easily forgotten when the next one occurs. We also need to remember that multiple lives were lost at the Garlic Festival in Gilroy (CA) and the Walmart in South Haven (MI).

Unfortunately, there was a fifth mass shooting that is getting very little media coverage. Seven people were shot in Lawndale's Douglas Park in West Chicago (IL), which also happened around the same time as the shooting in Dayton (OH).

Please keep the families of all the victims and wounded in prayer.
