🥰 City Avenue District Welcomes New Residents

The topiary animal sculptures we have seen in several spots while driving around the City Avenue District are adorable. There are eight all total and CAD had a contest to give them names. They are hoping you will enjoy finding all of the sculptures, snapping pics with the animals, and tagging them on Instagram @cityavenuedistrict. Click on the images or the hashtag that follows for more details. #Just2Cute

🥢 Daiki Hibachi Will Be Missed

Me and the hubby loved Daiki Hibachi, which was located at 7557 Haverford Avenue in Philadelphia. The food was great, reasonably priced, and you couldn't meet a sweeter host than Ms. Sherry. It was nice having another hibachi restaurant in the area, which we haven't had since Benihana, the underground restaurant in the Saks 5th Avenue parking lot on City Avenue, closed many years ago--for those who remember it.

But unfortunately, like many other restaurants, Daiki struggled to keep things going through COVID. They had to reinvent their service in several ways during the pandemic and afterward when they resumed their dine-in service. In fact, the last few times we were there, we were the only customers in the restaurant and some of you may have experienced the same.

So, for those like us who didn't hear the sad news when it happened, Daiki had to close their doors for good on May 31, 2025. Click on image or this text link to read their farewell notice to the community and customers from their Instagram page. I decided to take the time to write this post in the hopes they might see it one day and know how much they are missed. We wish them well on any future endeavors.

🇺🇸 Bad Things Happen In Philadelphia

We know #47 probably doesn't want to hear this (who cares), but we took care of early voting via mail ballot today. There is no such thing as "big elections" and "little elections." ALL ELECTIONS MATTER and all of them have consequences. If you're planning to skip this one, don't do it. The future of people in our municipality who are fighting for you is at stake and they need you to cast your vote. Today is the last day to request a mail-in ballot. For those who already have one, they must be returned no later than Election Day on November 4th, the same day people will be voting at the polls in-person until they close at 8:00pm. Let's vote by any means necessary! #PhillyVotes

⁉️ Did You Know

Okay, be honest. Who knew R&B singer Alicia Keys appeared in the "Slumber Party" episode of The Cosby Show? It was the 22nd episode of the first season, which originally aired on March 28, 1985. At the time, she was 4 years old and credited as Alicia Cook. She was one of Rudy's friends at the slumber party. Alicia was one of many young people who appeared on the show and later became stars. 💫 #TVTrivia

📚 Official Reopening of the Wynnefield Library

Today, me and the hubby had a chance to see the recent courtyard renovations at the Wynnefield Library at 54th & Overbrook Avenue. Afterward, we checked out Hawk & Barrel on 54th Street (where Landmark Americana used to be) and had dinner. The atmosphere, food, and service was great!
