💜 June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month
As the month is coming to an end, please continue to support the related organizations of your choosing so the caregiving and research that is needed toward delay, prevention, and hopefully a cure can continue. Right now, 1-in-10 people 65 and older have Alzheimer's and other various types of Dementia. The current statistics indicate that someone is diagnosed every 66 seconds and by the year 2050, it will be every 33 seconds. We need to do it for our loved ones, friends that we care about, and ourselves. We just don't know who will benefit and need the resources and support that these organizations can provide in the years to come.

My daughter told my granddaughter 3 times if she was sleepy, go to bed. She said she wasn't sleepy and this is how she fell asleep in the living room. Just 2 funny!

🙏🏾 Meme of the Day
I, too, have been asked about the cup, glass, etc. many times over the course of my life. I've always seen it as "half-a-cup", period. I'm not an optimist or pessimist. I am a "realist" and people tend to forget that we exist. But, I also see the cup and I'm thankful for that as well. Be grateful!

🕊 Thanks Mom
It took a month longer than the first, but the second Peace Lily we received after mom's passing last year finally got its first bud and bloom of the season. We must be doing something right, with a little help from heaven!

🕊 Dad Quotes
"There is no need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's love and protection. When we are young, we think he is a super hero... then, we grow up and realize he is just an ordinary man. If he is no longer holding our hand, he has our back and his protection continues to be a pillar of strength throughout most of our lives. When he is gone, the void that is left behind can never be filled."
😇 Stepfathers Are A Blessing From God
He goes to work each day, stays all day long.
He comes home each night, looking tired and beat.
He sits down at the dinner table, and has a bite to eat.
Never a frown, always a smile,
when he says to me, how's my child.
I've been studying hard, all day in school.
tryin' to understand the golden rule.
I think I'll color this man father.
I think I'll color him love.
I'm gonna color him father.
I think I'll color the man love, yes I will.
He says, education is the thing if you wanna compete,
because without it son, life ain't very sweet.
I love this man and I don't know why,
except I'll need his strength, till the day that I die.
My mother loves him and I can tell,
by the way she looks at him, when he holds my little sister Nell.
I heard her say just the other day,
that if it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't have found her way.
My real old man, he got killed in the war,
and she knows she and seven kids, couldn't of gotten very far.
She said she thought that she could never love again,
And then there he stood, with that big wide grin.
He married my mother and he took us in,
and now we belong to the man with that big wide grin.
I think I'll color this man father.
I think I'll color him love.
I'm gonna color him father.
I'm gonna color him love.

Footnote: In 1969, this song ranked #2 on the R&B charts and #7 on Billboard's Hot 100; the composer, Richard L. Spencer, won a Grammy Award for Best R&B song in 1970. Click on the record label for a link to YouTube and listen to this classic gem, the only one of its kind, which pays tribute to all of the stepfathers holdin' it down out there. And, always remember, as my pastor so eloquently pointed out in a sermon once... Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was actually raised by a man who played the role of a stepfather and his name was Joseph. So, never underestimate the importance of the part you play in God's divine plan. You are loved and appreciated much more than you know. May God continue to bless all of you!

"A BLACK BELT IS A WHITE BELT THAT NEVER QUITS"
Well, the road back to normal is really looking good so far and it was apparent for the first time at AmeriKick-Andorra since March 2020. Parent seating has returned, so we can finally sit in the studio and watch my grandson during class again. I was never so excited about taking a pic of 'chairs' before in my life! LOL! Also, this was the first time we saw the whole class together since last year because some students continued via ZOOM after the studio opened. Even though masks are optional for vaccinated parents and students now, there were definitely more masks than not today. Hopefully, Bring-A-Buddy days will return soon so his sisters can go with him from time to time!

🇺🇸 Juneteenth 06/19
Thankful for the national observance and long overdue recognition, but this reminds me of the cow that gives milk and then knocks it over because some of the states are simultaneously trying to prevent the history from being taught. Still, honor our ancestors and celebrate anyway as the struggle continues...
⏳ #TBT Barber Shop Memories
Remembering dad, his expertise for cutting hair, and where his barber shop used to be located on 60th Street near Larchwood Avenue in SW Philly. I started 1st grade at Bryant Elementary School, which was one block up the street, in 1964. He took me to school in the morning, picked me up for lunch at the shop, took me back for class in the afternoon, and picked me up again at the end of the day. This is a fairly recent pic of the building, which is still there, and he was the one who "shaped up" my J5 afro in the 10th grade.

I'm not quite ready to go to any nearby shore points just yet because the water is still too cold. Maybe July-August it will be at least 80 degrees...

😋 Summer Cooking 101
Well, the hubby just brought home 2 more of those "Dinner in Minutes" meal bags from Target. This week, we will try the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo with Cesar Salad and Tomato Tortellini Soup with Asiago Kale Chopped Salad. Both of them take 15 mins to prepare and contain enough ingredients for 3+ servings. He loves Italian food!

📣 A Big Shout Out...
To all of the kids who didn’t win an award, make honor roll, and barely made it through the school year. A big hug to the moms, dads, grandparents, foster parents, and caregivers who stuck by them as they maneuvered their way through the school year. For the kids who didn’t get invited to the prom, didn’t get a scholarship to college, and perhaps have to go straight to work out of high school... they are worthy of a pat on the back and a post uplifting how AMAZING they are too. Some kids have to work twice as hard as others just to get a C and their achievements should receive recognition as well. Do not forget about these kids. Creativity, generousity, and kindness are attributes that sadly don’t get the accolades they deserve. Please copy, paste, repost, and share this for them!

⏳ #FBF Proud Gmom
My grandson just completed his first full year of high school virtually. He has come a long way, and it's hard to believe he's a 15yo teenager and 10th grader now. Like so many other students who graduated from middle school in 2020, he had a virtual ceremony last June because of the pandemic after completing grades K-8. Then, he met the challenge and handled the transition of starting high school online. He did it well and kept it moving. I pray, GOD willing, that he will finally be able to start his in-person high school experience in September. Keep up the good work... Grammy loves you and GOD loves you more!

😇 Pomp & Circumstance
As the academic year comes to a close, what a blessing it is that despite our 1+ year battle with COVID-19 many of our college and school students around the country are able to have in-person graduations, proms, etc. this year. I hear some are also including students from the Class of 2020, which is so caring and gracious. GOD is able, what a difference a year can make!

😋 Anniversary Lunch & Dessert
Went to Fogo de Chao in Center City Philadelphia and did The Fogo Churrasco Experience for lunch, then received a complimentary serving of cheesecake for dessert. Can't eat another bite right now and don't want to see another piece of meat for a while. Everything was good though!
⏳ #TBT Going For The Gold
Today, we want to thank GOD for allowing us to celebrate 32 years of love and marriage. In 1989, eggs were 96¢ a dozen, milk was $2.34 a gallon, gas was $1.12 a gallon, postage stamps were 25¢ each, the median household income was $28,906, the average cost of a car was $12,000, and the average cost of a new home was $148,800 or so they say. Being newlyweds, we couldn't afford none of it but we had each other. Okay, maybe some of it! LOL! But, GOD is good and keeps His promises, so everything got better with time. We also want to give Him praise for guiding and helping us to remain committed to each other over the years, and we pray that He will continue to show us favor going forward. But, at this stage of our lives, the most precious blessings we hope He will give us is good health and more time. Shout out to all of our family and friends who were present on this special day as we started on this life journey together!
