She Was Every Woman...
Cicely was an American treasure. I heard the sad news from my daughter while I was eating dinner this evening. My exposure to this extraordinary actress goes w-a-y back, and the first three roles I ever saw her in will always be nearest and dearest to my heart. I was 14 years old when our class went on a trip to the movies to see "Sounder" in 1972; I was 15 years old when the teacher gave our class an assignment to watch "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman" in 1974; and I was 18 years old, glued to the TV for a week, when "Roots" originally aired in 1977. Of course, she went on to play many more roles after that and when she gave a performance, you were NEVER disappointed. The last time I enjoyed watching her was on "How to Get Away With Murder" and she was excellent. Bravo and rest well, Cicely. You will be greatly missed!
