I was 12 years old when this was released in 1970 and I loved the sense of "hope" conveyed in the lyrics. So, I took my allowance money, went to the neighborhood record store, bought the 45rpm, and I still have it to this day. Over the years, I was exposed to many other songs of hope by a wide variety of artists, but this one still moves me the most whenever I hear it.
