Farewell Butterball

This man practically raised me over the radio airwaves in the 70s. I actually had the pleasure of shaking his hand, giving him a great big hug, and telling him the same when he appeared @ Sound of Market Street a few years ago. His beautiful spirit and distinctive voice will truly be missed in Philadelphia and words cannot express just how much. If anyone would like to leave messages to celebrate his life and legacy in the City of Brotherly love, he has a couple of Facebook pages and here are the links:

Philadelphia said goodbye to beloved WDAS-FM radio personality Joe "Butterball" Tamburro today. The funeral service was held @ Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City. The Philly chapter of the NAACP is also planning an event to celebrate his legacy and commitment to civil rights in October. There will be no other like Butter. He will truly be missed!
