COVID-19: Fabric Face Mask

Want a face mask but can't find one anywhere?
Click on image or this text link to watch the video!

COVID-19: More Fabric Face Masks

Kudos and thank you to a very dear friend for these face masks, which she made and sent to us via U.S. mail. When the care package arrived, I had no idea what it. But, I opened it up and found these inside. Sorry, no instructions but it's easy enough to duplicate, if you know what you're doing. Click on the image for a larger view and you'll figure it out.

Shout out and thank you to my daughter for these face masks. Because the store-bought supply we had ran out and it's impossible to find them anywhere now, she started making these for the family. Again, no instructions but it's easy enough to duplicate, if you know what you're doing. Click on the image for a larger view and you'll figure it out.

COVID-19: What You Should Know

Please take the time to read this information. It’s important, especially if you know and/or love someone who has an autoimmune disease.

It takes an average of 3 years and 5 doctors for someone to get a proper diagnosis of an autoimmune disease. It is a disease where instead of the white blood cells protecting their body from invaders, they turn around and attack their cells, organs, and tissues. Chronic fatigue is another symptom. It is not a cold or the flu, they will never get better, and even a nap will not help. Just eating a salad and hitting the gym won’t slim their face or get the pounds off. Sleeping 10 hours doesn’t leave them well-rested, ever. The last minute changes in plans because of that "just got ran over" feeling never makes an appointment, it just walks in when they are not ready. Painful bones, joints, and muscles in addition to breaking hair, depression, dry skin, hair loss, and mood swings are just the tip of the iceberg. They are also prone to having multiple autoimmune diseases, which typically comes in pairs of two. They can easily catch bacterial and viral infections. And, no matter how hard they try, there are days in which they just can’t smile for anyone.

You are urged to think twice before passing judgment and thinking our nation is overreacting with the extra measures being taken to curb the spread of COVID-19. You might be able to recover from it with no problem—but if you carry it to someone with an autoimmune disease, that person won’t be as lucky. There are over 100 autoimmune diseases and here are some of the most common ones:

Ankylosing Spondylitis, Celiac’s Disease, CIDP, Crohn’s Disease, Diabetes (Type 1), Diabetic Neuropathy, Eczema, Fibromyalgia, GPA, Graves Disease, Guillaun-Barre Syndrome, Hashimoto’s Disease, Hemolytic Anemia, Hepatitis, Irritable Bowel Disease, Lupus Erythematosus, MCAD, MMN, Mold Illness, Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis, PBC, Pemphigus Vulgaris, Peripheral Neuropathy, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, POTS, Psoriasis, Raynauld’s Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sarcoidosis, Scleroderma, Sjogren's Syndrome, SPS, Thyroiditis, Ulceratic Colitis, Vitiligo, and Wegner’s Granulomatosis.

In honor of someone who is fighting an autoimmune disease, please share this information with others to increase their sensitivity to the needs of these individuals during the Coronavirus pandemic. Thank you!

COVID-19: Things We Took For Granted

When this is over, may we never again take for granted a handshake with a stranger, full shelves at the store, conversations with neighbors, a crowded theater, Friday night out, the taste of communion, a routine check-up, the school rush each morning, coffee with a friend, the stadium roaring, each deep breath, a boring Tuesday, or life itself. When this is over, may we find that we have become more like the people we wanted to be, we were called to be, we hoped to be, and may we stay that way—better for each other because of the worst. - Laura Kelly Fanucci

πŸ’œ #ILoveSomeoneWithDementia

For all those who have or had family members and/or friends that suffer or suffered with Dementia...

Someone once said when you love someone with dementia, you lose them twice—once when they are diagnosed and again when they die. This is called Ambiguous Loss, which is a type of loss you feel when a person with dementia is physically here, but may not be present emotionally or mentally in the same way they were before.

I wouldn't wish dementia on anyone. As the disease progresses, brain function will decrease and the patient will forget their loved ones over time. They can eventually become bedridden and unable to drink, eat, or move. There will be people who will scroll by this message because dementia has not touched them yet. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who is fighting or has fought a battle against dementia.

In an effort to raise awareness for this cruel disease, please share this information so others can know and understand it too. Thank you!

COVID-19: What Would Jesus Do?

The following is a message and checklist from a Christian friend that I believe will resonate with people of all faiths...

With all of the warnings for the need for social distancing, the run on many items at grocery stores, the closure of schools, the cancellation of events, the loss of income for so many people, the sheer lack of any predictability of how long and how bad this different way of life is going to last, what is beginning to sink in for me is how much help lots of people will need and how many people are already on the front lines every day taking risks to continue to do their jobs that protect us... doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, etc.

Christians should be on the front lines of helping and encouraging, not contributing to shortages or xenophobia or misinformation. Right now, more than ever, we need to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Below is an excellent checklist for followers of Jesus in the midst of this unpredictable and uncharted time in our world.

1. ____ I’ve checked on one local elderly friend to let them know I’m willing to make a grocery run to keep them out of crowds and offer assistance (if needed) as the virus passes through my area.

2. ____ I’ve donated to a local organization that stands ready to assist the helpless in my community if a crisis escalates locally.

3. ____ I’ve donated to an international organization that cares for orphans in a country in which COVID-19 has run rampant.

4. ____ I’ve contacted at least one out-of-town friend to ask if they need me to mail any sort of supplies that are available in my area.

5. ____ I’ve reached out to at least one family with an immune-compromised member to let them know I’m praying and ask if I can buy groceries for them as the virus passes.

6. ____ I’ve evaluated my own motives, preparation, and behavior to make sure I’m not likely to add complexity to my community resources.

7. ____ I’ve continued to invest in my local and national economy.

8. ____ I’ve found ways to resist fear-based racism in my daily conversation about the virus.

9. ____ I’ve expressed gratitude and respect for at least one public official who is walking into the face of the virus for the good of others.

10. ____ I’m praying daily for God to use my hands, feet, words, and life to serve others.

Feel free to share this message and checklist.

Vote By Any Means Necessary

Whether the Democratic nominee is BIDEN or SANDERS, as disappointed as some of you may be, you must remember the following:

1. You're not just voting for President.

2. You're voting for who replaces RBG on the Supreme Court.

3. You're voting for the next Secretary of Education.

4. You're voting for federal judges.

5. You're voting for the rule of law.

6. You're voting for saving national parks.

7. You're voting for letting kids out of cages.

8. You're voting for clean air and water.

9. You're voting for scientists to be allowed to speak about climate change and for rebuilding the CDC.

10. You’re voting to take measures to end the racial wealth disparity.

11. You're voting for housing rights.

12. You're voting for reformed former prisoners to be treated with dignity.

13. You're voting for everyone to be able to adopt a child without a lot of red tape.

14. You're voting for Dreamers.

15. You're voting so that there will be Social Security and Medicare when you retire.

16. You're voting for veterans to get the care they deserve.

17. You're voting for rural hospitals.

18. You're voting so that someone else can have health insurance.

19. You're voting for the preservation of PBS.

20. You're voting to have a President who doesn't embarrass this country every time they attend an international meeting.

21. You're voting against allowing the USA to become yet another authoritarian regime.

22. You're voting for sensible gun laws.

23. You're voting for the "down" ballot to keep the House and to gain majority of the Senate.

24. You're voting for children born to military troops overseas to still be counted as U.S. citizens.

25. You’re voting to curb homelessness and find solutions to affordable housing.

26. You're voting for what a President says and does on Twitter. (Hopefully, the next President won't use Twitter because they will have more important things to do, like run the country.)

Your first, second, and/or third choices may have dropped out of the race. But the nominee, no matter who they might be, won't be perfect. They won't pass your purity test. And yet, they will be better than four more years of Trump!
