Recommended Reading For Boys
If you have children or grandchildren in elementary school, check out the EllRay Jakes series of books by author Sally Warner. Even though he’s the smallest kid in class, 8 year old EllRay Jakes can get himself into big trouble. This humorous and true to life series starring an African-American family is just right for boys and reluctant readers. Coming soon from Sally: The Alfie Jakes series for girls!

Driving While Black: Another Life Lost
R.I.P. Bianca Nikol Roberson (October 17, 1998 - June 27, 2017)
Are You Looking For Justice? Well, Here's The Drill...
#BlackLivesMatter #NoJusticeNoPeace
Are You Looking For Justice? Well, Here's The Drill...
1. Family and friends of the perpetrator will be interviewed so they can vouch for what a good person he is and thus, not capable of doing such a thing to gain sympathy. And, of course, the perpetrator will claim he was afraid of what Bianca might do to him and he feared for his life.
2. Bianca's family will say she was a good person, but no one will believe them because her past is being investigated (as they speak) so anything and everything she has ever done can be brought up to devalue her life and make it seem like she 'deserved' to be shot and killed.
3. A 'dog and pony show' trial with an all-white jury (or just one or two black people) will convene so it appears the wheels of justice are turning, for the sake of appearance. But, in reality, they're not turning because the jurors are usually (more times than not) racially biased.
4. The jury will find the perpetrator not guilty because Bianca did or said 'something' at the time of the altercation (or in her past) to bring the shooting on herself and cause her own death. And, God forbid, if she asserted herself in any way during the incident--which is considered perfectly normal if you're white, but not looked upon favorably if you're black.

R.I.P. Thurman A. Lorick, Jr. (1933-2017)
Just about everyone I know got their class rings and graduation photos from 'Thurman' back in the day--especially, if you didn't like the way your photos came back from the photographer the school hired. Do you remember picking only one of the proofs just for the yearbook and then, going to 'Thurman' so they could be done right? This man knew how to photograph us like no one else could.
So, just in case you missed it too, use the Philadelphia Tribune link to see the article printed on June 27th about his passing. And, as a tribute to him and his legacy at Thurman Studios, I'm posting the graduation photo and class ring he did for me 41 years ago. We will miss you, Mr. Lorick!
